CHICAGO – The American Automobile Association forecasts that Memorial Day road trips will be up 6% over last year, with more than 37 million Americans driving to their destinations. The seasonal surge in gasoline demand leading into the long holiday weekend is resulting in higher pump prices and Illinois is ranked in the top ten most expensive markets. Currently, the average for a gallon of gas in the state is $3.97. In North Central Illinois prices have remained steady if not cheaper compared to the beginning of the month, with LaSalle County cheapest at $3.69 cents, followed by Putnam County at $3.72, and Bureau County most expensive at $3.81 per gallon.
