STREATOR – There’s now a vacant spot on Streator’s City Council. According to officials in a press release, City Councilor Joe Scarbeary announced his resignation at Wednesday night’s meeting. Scarbeary will now take a position as the city’s full-time building inspector. Scarbeary is a retired fire lieutenant with the Streator Fire Department and during his tenure was actively involved in nuisance and fire code inspection programs. He has served the department for over 20 years and was first elected as a councilman in 2017. He was re-elected to the council last April to a four-year term. Under state law, city council vacancies are filled by appointment by the mayor, confirmed by the city council until the next regular municipal election. The next election will be held in April of 2023.
