Real ID deadline moved to 2023

SPRINGFIELD – The Federal REAL ID deadline has been and Beth Kaufman, the Press Secretary for Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, has advice for those who have yet to get the new identification.
“People don’t have to rush in to obtain the REAL ID, and as a side note, if you have a valid passport, you don’t need to get a REAL ID” said Beth Kaufman on Thursday.
Current Illinois driver’s licenses or ID cards will continue to be accepted at airports and secure federal facilities until then. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White reminds residents that all driver’s license and ID card expiration dates are extended until Jan. 1, 2022. The extension does not apply to commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) and CDL learner’s permits.
