STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — It’s the big bang fact. A huge fireworks shell has blasted its way into the record books. A shell was launched over a ski resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado — and it set a record for the world’s largest aerial firework. The 2,800-pound shell flew 2,200 feet above the Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival before it burst Saturday night, turning the sky bright red and drawing gasps from the crowd. The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports Tim Borden headed the team that developed the firework over seven years. A rep for Guinness World Records witnessed the record-setting attempt — and verified the mark.
