MILAN (AP) — A gang of thieves set up barriers of burning vehicles and spilled nails on a highway near Milan in a bid to rob an armored vehicle but were foiled when the driver evaded their traps. The La Presse news agency says the assailants, believed to number about a dozen, fled the scene and remain at large. The attempted robbery took place late Tuesday on a major north-south highway in Italy. The robbers set a dozen vehicles on fire in both directions of the highway and rammed the armored vehicle with a tractor-trailer. But the robbery attempt failed when police intervened after the armored vehicle’s driver was able to pull into a rest area.
