YEKATERINBURG (AP) — Russia is said to be a place where bears run free. But in this case, it was elephants that literally had the run of one city’s streets. Residents of Russia’s third largest city Yekaterinburg, were blown away last Thursday when they spotted a pair of elephants wandering around on the snowy streets. The animals — who had escaped from a circus — seemed to enjoy their temporary freedom, rolling and frolicking in the snow — so much so that they resisted efforts to corral them. But they were eventually herded to their handlers — who took them to the next performance town.
