STREATOR – Streator’s city manager says he has a strategy to fiscal stability and funding to the police and fire pensions. Thursday morning City Manager David Plyman met with council to present his plans to zero the city’s deficit and increase police and fire pension contributions to reach his goal of 100% funding. To achieve this, Plyman says he proposes a tax levy increase of 4.81% and make over $400,000 worth of cuts via incentivizing early retirement and public safety staffing reductions. Plyman also suggested bringing money in from various corporate levies to back fund pensions to reach 100% funding. City council is expected to approve the budget before the end of December.
