STREATOR – Five local fire departments that were included in the 90 Illinois departments that will share an $88,000 grant, will use the money for various needs. Recipients of the grant include, Streator Fire Department, Long Point Community Volunteer Fire Protection District, Leonore Volunteer Fire Department, Grand Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and Allen Township Fire Protection District. According to Illinois American Water Spokeswoman Karen Cotton, each station will receive $1000. Streator applied to get funding for water drafting equipment so that they can continue to service neighboring communities that have no fire hydrants. Longpoint and Grand Ridge applied for pagers, and Leonore thermal cameras. The grant is through Illinois American Waters corporate responsibility program, where their mission is to be a good neighbor and provide various grants to support communities served.
