West Nile Virus confirmed in Henry

HENRY — The Bureau, Putnam & Marshall County Health Department confirmed that mosquitoes collected in Henry have tested positive for West Nile Virus. According to Dr. of Health Protection Kurt Kuchle (Kook-Lee) testing is complete in Marshall County after a pool of 50 mosquitoes were analyzed on September 9th, confirming positive for the virus. on August 16th Bureau County mosquitoes tested positive, though Kuckle says statewide numbers have been significantly low compared to last year. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, only 3 birds in the state tested positive for West Nile Virus compared to 28 last year. Over 700 mosquitoes tested positive within the state this year, compared to over 2800 last year and 3 human cases this year compared to 176 last year.
