Gypsy Moth Treatments Begin Next Week

Gypsy Moth Treatment Areas – Graphic US Forest Service

OTTAWA – The US Forest Service have announced that areas will be treated for Gypsy Moths next week, weather permitting. They will be using a pheromone to disrupt the mating cycle, deterring males from mating with female moths. Helicopters will be visiting State Parks and forest preserves throughout the area on Monday and Tuesday. The gypsy moth feeds on on the foliage of oaks, aspen, and many other trees and plants. If left unchecked, they can defoliate large areas and kill upwards of 20% of all trees in an infested area.
